Diego Costa’s goal against Swansea City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday marks his confirmation above Premier League legends such as Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer and Ruud van Nistelrooy in the class of prolific strikers.
The Chelsea striker has scored in 42 EPL matches out of 78 with a rating of at least one goal in 54% of his Premier League matches, this has classed Costa above Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was on the score sheet in exactly half of his matches for Manchester United, Thierry Henry (48.1%) and the all-time leading scorer in the competition, Alan Shearer (43.1%).
But Diego Costa’s is under pressure to retain his NO 1 spot.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Man Utd striker is at par with Van Nistelrooy on 50% and would place him above Costa if he scores in his next two PL matches, at home to AFC Bournemouth and at Middelesbrough, if the Chelsea striker scores in only one of his outings against West Ham United and Stoke City.
Sergio Aguero is another in form striker who might not overtake Costa imminently but, scoring in 80 of his 169 appearances for Manchester City would move the Argentinean right on the heels of the Spain international.
